The Stitch Lab is launching a new Fashion Design Program designed for creative students ready to explore the art and engineering of clothing construction. Through immersive summer intensives and advanced runway opportunities, students will develop technical sewing skills, learn professional fashion techniques, and gain real-world experience in the fashion industry.
This program approaches fashion through the lens of design thinking, construction, math, and engineering, teaching students how garments move from concept to fully realized runway pieces.
Whether students want to explore sewing for the first time or commit to the full Fashion Week experience, there is a pathway to participate.
What to Expect
Open to students ages 13 through adult, these week-long intensives introduce students to the technical foundations of fashion design and garment construction. Students will build technical confidence while learning precision, structure, and creative problem-solving through wearable design.

Basics of sewing & machine operation
Clothing construction fundamentals
Introduction to corsetry
Fashion illustration
Ruffles & flounces
Introduction to draping
Enclosures & closuresCouture finishing techniques

These intensives are designed to give students foundational sewing and construction skills they can continue building on for years to come. Fashion Week Program
Included in the Fashion Program but not required!
Students seeking a deeper experience may apply for the Fashion Week Program, an immersive opportunity to design, construct, and model an original look in live 2026 fashion events held in San Diego!
Students in this program will have the opportunity to work alongside photographers, models, hair & makeup teams, and fashion professionals while gaining behind-the-scenes exposure to the industry.
Participants will experience the full creative cycle:
Designing concepts
Developing technical skills
Constructing garments
Preparing for runway presentation
Walking their own designs on a professional runway
